**What makes ThreeFold Unique?**
Over the past decade, ThreeFold has tackled complex challenges such as data storage, secure overlay networking, and autonomous cloud security. As a result of these innovations, ThreeFold is the world’s first project to approach a fully functional Web4 infrastructure addressing the Internet’s core components: data, network, and cloud.
**Who are the founders of ThreeFold?**
Kristof de Spiegeleer is co-founder and CEO at ThreeFold. In the mid-90s, after completing his master's degree in computer engineering at the University of Gent, de Spiegeleer joined the team at PSI Net that built the first data center in Europe. He then founded several ventures that brought significant improvements to cloud automation and Internet storage. These were then acquired by Symantec, Verizon, Oracle, TeleNet, and others.
In 2014, he started meeting other industry experts such as Adnan Fatayerji, Weynand Kuijpers, Owen Kemp, and many more. With a strong understanding of the challenges of the centralized Internet and Cloud model, together they decided to start from scratch to build a new decentralized, autonomous, edge Internet infrastructure.
**How does it work?**
Regardless of technical expertise, anyone can provide data, network, and cloud resources to the ThreeFold ecosystem. This process is called farming. Those who offer resources are called farmers and they earn rewards for their contributions.
Grid updates and enhancements are voted on through a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO), namely the TFDAO, where farmers, providing resources to the grid, vote via TFChain on grid enhancement proposals.
For users, the platform has many use cases. Web2 system administrators can deploy any application on the grid with familiar and industry-standard tools and Web3 enthusiasts can run blockchain workloads on the grid. Furthermore, Web4 developers will soon be able to build the apps and experiences of the future.
Users can deploy on the grid using the user-friendly ThreeFold Dashboard, where dozens of one-click applications are available. It is also possible to deploy using industry-standard technologies such as Pulumi and Terraform/OpenTofu. Farmers can also manage their farm and vote on TFDAO propositions on the ThreeFold Dashboard and the ThreeFold Connect app.
**What is the ThreeFold Token ($TFT)?**
ThreeFold Tokens (TFTs) are generated by the compute, storage, and network capacity that farmers add to the grid. Those who want to use the grid need to spend TFT to pay for their deployments.
TFT lives on four different chains. TFT is minted on Stellar and used to deploy workloads on TFChain. TFT can also be bridged to Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain. By farming, buying, holding, and utilizing TFT, you actively support the ecosystem.
TFT, capped at 1 billion tokens, has supported the project for years, enabling the development of the most advanced and complete decentralized cloud engine on the planet.
To manage their tokens, users and farmers alike can use the intuitive ThreeFold Connect app, a mobile secure wallet that offers features such as farm management, token transfers and TFDAO voting.
