# The MERC
At the core of the ecosystem is MERC, an ERC 20 utility token with a fixed supply of six billion tokens. MERC aligns incentives across the platform’s stakeholders by rewarding early adoption and enabling participation in new markets. The token delivers value through three primary channels:
### 1. Discount farming via staking
Discount farming via staking allows MERC holders to lock their tokens in a “Discount Farming Staking Program” and receive monthly distributions of Element Tokens (ETs). ETs represent credits toward future fees on Liquid Mercury’s trading platform. Users who are customers can redeem ETs to discount their monthly invoices for services such as order routing, algorithmic execution or analytics. Those who are not direct customers can sell ETs on Liquid Mercury’s private secondary marketplace for cash equivalents. This marketplace connects users and customers, allowing ETs to trade at a market based price. The discount farming program therefore turns token holders into liquidity providers for the ecosystem, while customers benefit from reduced operating costs.
### 2. Access to premium features and staking rewards
Staking MERC unlocks access to exclusive research, curated trading tools and trading rebates. Liquid Mercury produces institutional quality market analysis and algorithmic strategies, and stakers gain access to this content ahead of the broader market. Stakers receive annual staking rewards currently set at ten percent per year, paid in MERC, as compensation for locking up their tokens and contributing to liquidity. These incentives are designed to promote long term commitment and align the interests of the community with the project’s growth.
### 3. Participation in Liquid Mercury’s expansion into tokenized real world assets.
Liquid Mercury’s roadmap includes building marketplaces for tokenized real world assets such as commodity futures, private equity stakes and tokenized collectibles. As the company grows its RWA footprint, MERC will be used as the transactional currency and governance token in these marketplaces. The token will grant holders the right to participate in auctions, pay transaction fees and potentially vote on governance matters governing asset listings and market parameters. By integrating RWA functionality, Liquid Mercury aims to bring institutional capital and regulated assets onto public blockchains, expanding the utility of MERC beyond the existing trading platform.
